Design of the next phase of Cordata Community Park is underway!

Phase 2 development of Cordata Community Park is grounded in the vision of the Park Master plan adopted by City Council in 2017 and will extend the range of high quality recreational opportunities in Cordata Park to the citizens of Bellingham. Please check out the full project scope, budget, and schedule in the Cordata Park Phase 2 Presentation underneath the "Documents" tab.

The City acquired the 25-acre park in 2015, and the Park officially opened in September 2020 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Click here to view the Cordata Park Opening video. Phase 2 development is funded by park impact fees and the Greenways Four levy.

The plans for the park look great. I am particularly happy to see the plans for pickleball courts, as I have recently joined the pickleball community using the courts in Cornwall Park which are just so nice. It's a great community and the courts are very busy, so more will be most welcome. Thanks very much for including them in your plans! Great to see also that you are planning a wheelchair accessible court -- that's very thoughtful and will be warmly welcomed. Bellingham Parks is doing a wonderful job providing all sorts of amenities to many people -- thanks!

I am an avid user of the parks and trails in Bellingham. Thank you for your efforts to listen to all of us in the community.
Pickleball, especially in a covered space would be an asset to our community

Can we get a disc golf course?

Hi! Vamos Outdoors Project takes kids to Cordata Park, we really appreciate the expansive park amenities in this neighborhood Bellingham. The user group of this park is much more diverse than many other parks in Bellingham, as the neighborhood is much more diverse than other neighborhoods in Bellingham. It would be great if there was signage in languages other than English to welcome park visitors who speak other languages. Even just a welcome sign or other small touch would go a long way. Thanks!

I would suggest Bellingham City govt. departments explore both the social/community needs and the local business community opportunities for thinking BIGGER in terms of pickleball. We can look at what communities in other states (AZ, FL, CA, etc.) have done to develop their local economy by building covered all season pickleball courts/complexes that are utilized for regional tournaments which draw customers for local business'.
While we appreciate the additional courts ...maybe we should look and plan a bit further into the future?

What about the community gardens? I take my grandson to the park and would love to have a small plot for us to work on and share the produce. Please consider how important a garden can be.

As a member of both the local tennis community as well as pickleball community, I have a unique perspective on what we currently have in Whatcom county as well as what is planned. To play tennis, we have dozens and dozens of choices that include both the parks as well as local high schools and WWU. There are a plethora of options. However, the pickleball opportunities are far less available. We are so grateful to the parks department for the gorgeous complex at Cornwall Park; it is used more than any other park area I have ever seen. Sadly, it is getting loved to death as there just aren't enough places to play. Please consider expanding court choices at Cordata Park, as well as other parks, as well as painting in lines on all park tennis courts (or even turning some of those tennis courts into dedicated pickle ball courts). Pickleball is more accessible to all income levels, does not require the time/cost of lessons like tennis does to quickly pick up the game, and provides a sense of community in our town that is much needed by all ages.

Included in the Greenways Levy IV were the goals to promote community gardens. I would love to see Greenways funding go toward this promise. It would take absolutely no additional space to simply include native fruit and nut bearing trees in the landscape design of Cordata Park Phase 2. This was a missed opportunity in Phase 1's landscape design and I would hate to see this lost again. These trees are a very simple and passive way to provide for a Community Food Forest model.

Please add pickleball courts! Lots of people in Bellingham/ Lynden love pickleball and we have limited spaces for play. You will see a whole new community of people enjoy your park and be thankful for providing them place to enjoy their sport/recreation.

I think the park is a splendid community asset. The survey did not include pickleball. This is probably the only use I would have for it given our respective locations.

I agree with the other comments about pickleball courts - we need more of them locally! Cornwall cannot accommodate the needs. We could easily fill 6-8 more courts at Cordata (even with more courts being planned at WCC). This is indeed the fastest growing sport in the US and especially in the PNW. Bellingham is no exception. And pickleball is not just for the retired set - all ages are playing pickleball increasingly and numbers of folks playing tennis are dwindling locally as people switch to pickleball. And yes, if courts could be covered for rain and have lighting, to accommodate our local weather and seasons, this would guarantee strong utilization year round. And fencing between the courts is also recommended. Thank you so much for including pickleball in Cordata park planning!

Great start to add pickleball courts. Please plan to add more courts, Cornwall Park can't keep up with the high demand. Covered courts should be planned to be able to play year round. Lighting would allow longer hours of operations. Thank you for allocation funds to pickleball.

Four Pickleball courts will not be enough to support this large and growing community sport.
it is already getting to be too crowded at the Cornwall courts where there are six permanent and 4 temporary courts all getting steady use. The local Bellingham Pickleball Club has about 350 members and is also growing fast. Please consider expansion from the four Pickleball courts to at least six to 10. Also please add lighting and cover for the courts into the current plan or accommodate this into the engineering for future add-ons. Also please don't forget to include the fencing between the courts. Thank you for your support of this great community sport of Pickleball!

I would be love to see more accommodations for Pickleball. Since it is the fastest growing sport in the USA, we should be ahead of the curve. More and more people are coming to the PNW during summer and with that brings opportunity to get the community involved, tournaments, which bring money into local businesses and hotels. It boosts our economy. The down side would be more people will get to know Bham and the surrounding area, and move here…..hummm. Maybe I need to with draw my request…jk.
I would think 6-10 Pickleball courts would draw a huge amount of people and possibly cause different problems, like people wanting even More courts. Build them, they will come!!
