July 15, 2024 update: Thank you for your name ideas! The survey has closed and names will be presented to Park and Recreation Advisory Board at the August 2024 meeting.
Tilbury. Lehigh. Olympic Cement. The Pier. These are all names that have been used in the past to reference this Bellingham Bay landmark.
Looking to the future, a new name for this iconic structure will help provide consistency once and for all for this one of kind overwater amenity at Little Squalicum Park.
Acquired in 2021 as a donation to the city, public use of this existing wood pier has long been part of the City’s planning process to provide water enjoyment along Bellingham Bay. Renovation of the pier, which is included in the adopted Little Squalicum Park Master Plan, will begin later in 2024.
You can be part of the process to name the pier! While the structure’s historic name and past will have a place in a future interpretive sign, dedicating a new park facility name will provide unity and clarity to a geographic landmark, make it easier to find on a map, and provide a reference and waypoint inside the park for future generations to come.
Do you have a name suggestion? Please provide your input here. Name suggestion will be forwarded to the Bellingham Parks & Recreation Board and Bellingham City Council for final approval.
And sadly, Parky-McPier-Face is already taken. We’re sure you can come up with something better for this incredible over water structure with stunning views over Bellingham Bay!
