Help us design the new playground!

Please review the two different playground concepts attached, then take a quick survey to let us know what you like!

  1. Rock Hill playground Concept #1
  2. Rock Hill playground Concept #2

The final selection of playground option depends on public input, and we look forward to hearing from you. Parks and Recreation Dept. staff will be attending the February 26, 2025 York Neighborhood Association meeting to gather input in person at the 60% design phase.

Project Description

The City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department is replacing the existing playground at Rock Hill Park, located in the York Neighborhood at the end of Iron St. When complete, residents will have a new, safe, and accessible playground and new site furnishings. This playground replacement project is intended to broaden the range of recreational opportunities and organize park amenities to activate more of the park.

Why replace the existing playground?

The current Playworld Systems playground, installed in 1999, is weathered, difficult to find parts for, lacks ADA accessibility, and was designed for a narrow age range. Replacement will provide the next generation of park users with fun, accessible, challenging, and cooperative play opportunities while providing diverse sensory experiences.

Project objectives:

  • Demolish existing playground facilities including envelope and equipment and replace with a potentially enlarged age separated play area to accommodate desired age range, to be confirmed during the public process.
  • Add accessible parking and accessible walkway connection to the playground area.
  • Enhance the park experience with park furnishings, which could include picnic table, park benches, bike racks, and park and playground rules signage
